Ian Herbert, the chief spots writer at the Independent, reckons that Aston Villa are willing to spend £5m on our 32-year-old forward Rickie Lambert, and tweeted the news this evening…

Lambert has bagged just the three goals in 23 appearances so far this term, although most of these have come from the bench since his summer move from Southampton.

Liverpool fans have rightly supported the English international, who’s a boyhood Red, but the rumoured £5m fee would represent a profit on the striker who’s struggled to implement his attributed and strengths into our style of play.

With Daniel Sturridge fit again, Raheem Sterling comfortable in a striking role – and Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini also craving game-time, Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool have a decision to make whether they should cash in on Lambert now, as it’s very unlikely that an offer of a similar size will arrive in the future.
