Unbelievable praise heaped on young playmaker…

Following Coutinho’s performance and winning goal against Bolton Wanderers, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has compared his 22-year-old Brazilian playmaker to last season’s phenomenon Luis Suarez.

The Uruguayan’s performances in 2013/14 almost earned us title glory, and it won him the Premier League Player of the Year award, as well as a £75m move to Barcelona.

While Coutinho has not yet reached this level of consistency, he has been playing absolutely expertly in the past few months, and his form has coincided with our strong run of form. If the Premier League started on Boxing Day, we’d be top of the table.

Suarez is undoubtedly one of the best footballers on the planet, but Rodgers reckons Coutinho can follow in his footsteps…

“You’d pay money to watch that kid,” Rodgers began.

“He’s a great role model for technical young players who maybe wouldn’t have got a chance before because of those with bigger stature. He’ll become world-class in the next couple of years like Luis Suarez. He played in this team and grew and grew with the game model. I can see Coutinho following in a similar sort of line, just maybe not as prolific. But he’s certainly on the way to that level.”
