After a tough start to the season things have looked much more positive since the turn of the New Year and Allen believes we are now in a very strong position to reach the top four.

“We have a more clinical edge now than we did at the start of the season. That’s grown with our momentum and picking up points, it tends to happen that way,” the Welshman told the club’s website.

“From a group point of view, we always knew despite the disappointments at the start of the season that it was going to turn around at some point.

“We would have wished it was earlier than it has been, but we’ve still got plenty of time left this season to really go on and achieve good things.”

The result at St Mary’s leaves us sixth in the table and just two points behind fourth placed Manchester United with 12 games still left to play in 2014/15.

Brendan Rodgers has really turned things around since struggling with the departure of Luis Suarez to FC Barcelona and is starting to get the best out of new signings such as Emre Can, Adam Lallana and even Mario Balotelli.

Whether or not we can qualify for the Champions League or not is another matter, but one thing is for sure and that’s that things are clearly a lot more positive around Anfield currently.
