Philippe Coutinho has been in sensational form so far this season…

Philippe Coutinho was praised by both his manager and his teammates after scoring a superb winning goal in our Premier League victory over Manchester City at Anfield today.

Adam Lallana, who himself had two goals disallowed for offside in the 2-1 win, described the Brazilian as a ‘magician’, while manager Brendan Rodgers was quick to point out that our match-winners is still just 22-years-old.

Lallana, who was quoted by our official website, said: “That’s a massive win for us. We’ve got momentum – they’re the champions but we thoroughly deserved it.

“The lads have got fighting spirit and the little magician at the end came up with another wonderful goal. With players like that we’re going to go far.”

“Our system has been causing teams problems all year. The manager said keep patient and find the space. With players like Jordan and Joe sitting behind us, they were always going to find myself, Philippe and Raheem.

“We thought we were unlucky not to go in ahead at half-time. In the second half, we showed great character. A lot of the lads played extra-time in midweek and had a long flight but we’ve proved today we can keep going, keep fighting and keep believing.”

Also speaking after the game, Rodgers added: “To beat Joe Hart, who I rate extremely highly, at 6ft 5 and a top-class goalkeeper, to beat him from that angle with that power was a phenomenal strike – as was Jordan’s.

“In particular since he signed his contract, he has started to score goals. He’s a joy to watch. He’s a kid that has got so much ahead of him in the game at 22 years of age.

“People forget he came to us at 20, still developing and adapting to a new country. He’s a sensational footballer and now he’s starting to add the goals to mirror that quality.”

There is certainly no telling how good Coutinho could become. Having won the supporters’ ‘player of the month’ award three times already this season, he has clearly become a firm fan favourite, and as he now begins to add goals to his game as well, his reputation will surely continue to rise.

Coutinho’s incredible strikes against first Southampton, and now City, have lifted us into fifth place in the Premier League, and within two points of the top four. He’ll no doubt be aiming to steal the show again when we taken on Burnley on Wednesday.
