Liverpool’s Mario Balotelli linked with MLS switch

Stranger rumour, this one…

The Metro has reported that Mario Balotelli is being ‘lined up’ for a move across the pond, with MLS outfit Orlando City apparently keen on our controversial Italian…

The story stems from Spanish website fichajes, (which directly translates as ‘signings’) and we can confirm that they’re arguably the most unreliable transfer site on the internet…

While Balotelli’s season has not panned out the way all of us hoped, he’s upped his level in recent weeks – bagging a Premier League winner against Spurs, assisting an Adam Lallana FA Cup goal, and notching a Europa League penalty (albeit in suspect circumstances…).

The 24-year-old signed for £16m last summer, and while he hasn’t shone, it seems unlikely that we’ll part with the striker for much less than the suggested bargain we got him for. No MLS side has ever paid a significant transfer fee, which makes this transfer rumour even more of a non-starter, for us.

Whether Balotelli does stay beyond the end of this season is another matter, but it seems pretty implausible that he’ll head to the MLS just yet.
