Glen Johnson looks set to leave Liverpool, with his agent confirming interest from a number of clubs…

Jonathan Barnett, the agent of Liverpool defender Glen Johnson, believes that his client would jump at the chance to join Roma next summer, where he would join former Arsenal, Chelsea and England star Ashley Cole.

Barnett, who also represents Cole, has been in discussions with a number of clubs ahead of Johnson’s Liverpool contract expiring at the end of the season, but has thus far remained tight-lipped on any potential agreement.

Speaking about the potential move, Barnett said: “We’ve had no contact with Roma, although Roma would be a lovely place for him. Ashley Cole absolutely adores it there, I represent him as well.

“Ashley thinks very highly of Rome, but we’ve had no contact with Roma regarding Glen. He’s obviously looking for things at the moment. He’s looking at many clubs.

“Glen is obviously looking for somewhere where he can turn around his career – that’s the most important thing for him – where he can play nicely under a good club that’s challenging for things. That is where he wants to be.”

Reports in the Daily Mirror confirm that Johnson is still undecided on his future, but Barnett has now clearly confirmed for the first time that he’s extremely interested in a potential move to Italy.

Johnson has been free to talk to foreign clubs since the turn of the year, but has so far made little progress on a move away from Merseyside.

He currently earns close to £120,000-a-week at Anfield, but he has rejected the club’s offer of a short-term extension on much-reduced terms. He’s anxious not to be reduced to a bit-part role under Brendan Rodgers, and it’s that which is likely to inspire his decision to leave.
