The Reds can move into the top four with victory over Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, while such a result would also see us stay within touching distance of both Arsenal and Manchester City.

After City’s defeat by Burnley last weekend, there are now just four points separating fifth and second place. We are the Premier League’s in-form side, and fans are starting to dream of an equally impressive end to the season.

However, Sturridge has urged his teammates not to get ahead of themselves ahead of the crucial end of season run in. Speaking to our official website, he said: “It is important to secure fourth place and then from there look on.

“To finish in the top four is realistic for us, it’s what we’re aiming to do, and if we can get higher than that then perfect.

“But finishing in the top four is the objective and that’s the most important thing for us. It’s not about aiming for anything other than that now.

“If we can finish in the top four, then we can push on and challenge for the title again next season. I think top four is definitely possible for us.”

Sturridge will be fighting hard this week to ensure his place in the team against United. The 25-year-old has only scored three times since his return from injury, and it has been suggested that he could drop to the bench.
