Where would the young Croat fit in at Anfield…?
According to Italian sports website Tuttomercato, Inter Milan could accept a £21m offer from Liverpool for Croatian central midfielder Mateo Kovacic in the summer to ease financial difficulties…
Liverpool transfer news
The Italian giants don’t want to sell, but will sacrifice the 20-year-old for a cash injection – as they’re much more keen to keep hold of impressive goalscorer Mauro Icardi, says Tuttomercato.
Kovacic is rated as one of the most exciting young central midfield prospects in European football, and in this respect, he suits FSG’s and Brendan Rodgers’ transfer policy perfectly.
He’s been used as a playmaker, a winger, and even a holding midfielder – but due to his physicality and technical prowess, the youngster has the perfect attributes to be a long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard – who is of course departing to MLS come the end of the season.
Kovacic can dribble, pass, win back possession, and shoot – as demonstrated by his five Serie A goals in 20 starts this term.
We don’t know how much truth there is in the rumour, other than the fact we’ve been consistently linked to Kovacic, and that we’ll surely move for a central midfielder when Gerrard leaves.
Reds fans are pretty chuffed by the potential transfer, it seems:
Kovacic??? Holy Mary mother of god let this be true….
