The 37-year-old Reds legend, who won 38 caps for his country, posted this image on his Instagram account earlier today, celebrating the 15th anniversary of the England Under-21s qualifying for the European Championships.

Carragher played 27 times for the Three Lions’ youth team, and eventually became the team’s captain and record appearance maker, a record that was later surpassed by another former Liverpool star – Scott Carson.

Below the picture, the defender teases the current England side by suggesting that his team could still beat the current crop of stars, who are closing in on qualification for Euro 2016.

The full squad listing for the game seen in the picture below was: Wright, K. Dyer, S. Johnson, Carragher, Ferdinand, Barry, Lampard, S.Gerrard, Hendrie, Heskey, Campbell. Subs: Davies, Weaver, Cadamarteri, Mills, Ball, Cole, D. Thompson.
