Liverpool are inquiring over a potential £8 million deal for Leeds United wing-back Sam Byram, who has been dubbed ‘the next Gareth Bale’ by the Daily Star.

The Star say the club have sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old over six times (so is that seven occasions then…?) and that the boss himself even went to run the rule over the youngster himself in March.

Given the 3-4-2-1 formation that Rodgers has employed in recent fixtures, the versatile Byram ought to be a good fit.

Whilst he is primarily a right-back by trade, Byram has the ability to fill in further up the field when needed, and so in a similar mould to Alberto Moreno could theoretically slot straight into the current system as a wing back.
