Manchester City might as well buy Liverpool Football Club and call it Liverpool City with the way their transfer strategy seems to be going.

Another day and another Liverpool player has been linked with a move to the Etihad, this time Philippe Coutinho – coincidently hot off his FA Cup quarterfinal winner against Blackburn.

The Daily Star laughably claim that as well as Henderson and Sterling, the petrol-fuelled club believe they can work a deal with the club for the Brazilian if we fail to secure a top-four finish and thus miss out on Champions League football next season.

Perhaps what best sums up just how credibly any nervous Reds fans should take this ‘scoop’ is what price the Star quote for Coutinho: £20 million.

That’s right; one of the form players of both the club and league, a revelation in the middle during this campaign as well as the the fact he has quite literally only signed what Mirror Online believes is a five-year contract, and the Star says £20m would be enough to get him.

Laughable.

He might have just six goals and four assists, but there’s no doubting the ability of the number 10 and what a crucial part of the Liverpool attack and game-plan he is.

Even if we were even looking to ship Coutinho out it would be for likely double that amount, probably more given the 22-year-old clearly still has so much unrealised potential.

This transfer guff is getting more ridiculous and hilarious by the day.
