Liverpool host Newcastle at Anfield hoping to get our top-four hopes back on track with a win against John Carver’s men.
Despite our chances of Champions League football next season looking slim following the humbling at Arsenal, Manchester United’s thumping of Manchester City in yesterday’s derby means that with a win today, we can move to within four points of Manuel Pellegrini’s men. And with the Citizens’ season seemingly crumbling, six games could well be enough to catch them.
History is on our side as the Magpies have not won at our place since April 1994. Since then, the two sides have played out some of the most memorable games in Premier League history. There has not been a goalless draw between the two sides since 1974.
Unfortunately, Brendan Rodgers is missing several players for the clash. Martin Skrtel and Steven Gerrard are still serving bans, whilst according to Sky Sports, Mamadou Sakho could miss as much as a month of action with a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Adam Lallana and Mario Balotelli are probable absentees due to a groin injury and illness respectively.
But there is some positive news. Emre Can returns from suspension after missing the Blackburn win, and Jordon Ibe should make his long-anticipated return.
The visitors will be without Reds target – according to the Daily Mirror – Rolando Aarons, and Siem de Jong.
