The Argentine’s current deal expires in the summer of 2016 but the French giants will be well aware that they’ll need to sell him in the upcoming transfer window if they’re to stand a chance of striking a fair deal.

Having spent £30m on the then Palermo player back in 2011, Laurent Blanc will surely be eager to avoid losing the 25-year-old on a free transfer, while waiting until next January would be cutting any sale extremely fine.

According to talkSPORT, Pastore is eager to stay put but if no new deal is forthcoming, could begin to consider his options come the end of the season, with Liverpool reportedly poised to strike.

As things stand, he would fall in the same category as Miralem Pjanic in the box labelled – ‘Potential Steven Gerrard replacements’ – while his potential availability in a cut-price deal also makes this rumour particularly intriguing.

Pastore has scored 31 goals and created 29 assists during his near four-year spell in the French capital, although he’s never come close to matching his tally of 16 from his debut season back in 2011-12.
