England cricket star Moeen Ali will join former Liverpool doctor Zaf Iqbal as an ambassador for Pak Reds, the Pakistani sector of the official Liverpool supporters club.

Reports in the Liverpool Echo confirm that Ali, 27, has been named as an honorary ambassador in his country of origin, while adding that Ali is also a lifelong fan of the Reds.

Ali is preparing to join up with the England squad for their second test match against West Indies, which starts on Tuesday, having missed the opening game of the tour due to an injury picked up at the World Cup.

He’s played in seven test matches since making his debut last year, scoring 286 runs at an average of 31.77 and taking 22 wickets at an average of 28.09. He scored an unbeaten 108 against Sri Lanka.

The Worcestershire man has also played in 22 one day internationals, scoring 732 runs and taking 21 wickets.

He said of his new position: “I’m happy to announce I’m the new brand ambassador of Pak Reds. I look forward to this association. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
