Steven Gerrard may have to lead guard of honour for Chelsea’s probable title win

Gerrard may have to painfully lead Chelsea title salute in May…

Steven Gerrard’s farewell tour is sadly going to fizzle out, and he will not get the romantic FA Cup final send-off that his wonderful Liverpool career has earned, due to our Wembley defeat on Sunday to Aston Villa…

To make matters worse, there’s a large possibility that the captain will have to lead the guard of honour for Champions elect Chelsea, with Liverpool heading to Stamford Bridge on May 10th, reports the Daily Mail.

With the Blues ten points clear, and due to face 2nd placed Arsenal next weekend, it is surely only a matter of time until Jose Mourinho’s rather uninspiring but remarkably efficient side are crowned Premier League champions 2014/15.

As is public knowledge, Gerrard turned down the chance to join Chelsea when at the height of his powers in the mid-noughties (via the Guardian), and instead decided to stay and captain his boyhood club.

In that time, he has not won the Premier league title, although he got about as close as possible last season, as we narrowly missed out on top spot to Manchester City – who finished strongly as we stumbled against Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
