The Daily Star believe that Brendan Rodgers will be handed an additional £90m to spend on new players over the next three seasons, with the speculation based on our new £30m-a-year deal with sponsors Standard Chartered.

While there are in fact no guarantees that Rodgers will simply be handed the additional revenue to spend as he wishes, the additional finances will no doubt come as a welcome boost ahead of what looks set to be a key summer.

Despite spending in excess of £100m last summer, we’ve endured a difficult season – falling quickly out of Premier League title contention and missing out in all four of the cup competitions that we entered.

Nonetheless, there have been plenty of promising signs from a talented young squad, especially since the turn of the year. We have to hope that one or two key additions will help turn around our fortunes.

The Star adds that we’ll also be able to use the money from player sales. Steven Gerrard’s departure will free up a big chunk of the wage budget, while they claim that Kolo Toure, Glen Johnson, Raheem Sterling, Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini, Mario Balotelli and Javier Manquillo could all leave too.
