After signing up for a new long-term deal on Thursday, Jordan Henderson has already turned his attentions to convincing his teammates to do the same, including well-publicised contract rebel Raheem Sterling.

As the Liverpool Echo reports, Sterling recently turned down the Reds latest offer and abandoned talks until the end of the season. However, Henderson, who is now contracted until 2020, is desperate for the youngster to stay.

Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal are all believed to be among the clubs watching Sterling’s situation and will all be able to offer Champions League football next season, should we miss out.

Henderson has told Sterling that Liverpool is the best place to continue his development, as demonstrated by the fact that Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho have also put pen to paper in recent months.

In quotes taken by the Echo, Henderson told reporters: “I’ve known Raheem for a good few years now. He is a good friend of mine and my team-mate,” Henderson said.

“He has just got to do whatever he thinks is best but, if I was giving him advice, of course I would say: ‘This is Liverpool. I think this is the best place for him’.

“But at the end of the day that decision is up to him. He is a fantastic player for us. I hope he stays here and develops with us. He will be a big part of what we are looking to do.

“Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho have committed as well. They have made a statement because they are two top players. If we can get a few more done before the end of the season, I really believe we have got a chance of doing something special.”

Both Sterling and Henderson have had fine seasons at Anfield. Sterling is our current top scorer in all competitions with 11, while Henderson inspired our excellent run of form during early 2015 in the absence of Steven Gerrard.
