Despite enjoying an impressive 74% of the possession, we failed to trouble to the crucial statistic that counts.
According to the club’s official website, Rodgers was happy with the performance, suggesting that there was only one team that was going to take the three points.
“I thought the level of our game, in particular in the second half, was very good. Our intent in the game was to win and you could see that. We just needed a little break,” he said.
The second half was when the game began to find some life, after an attritional first 45 minutes. An effort from Philippe Coutinho, was saved by Boaz Myhill, and a shot from Jordon Ibe that hit the bar, was the closest that we came in the match.
The stalemate in the Midlands has unfortunately dented our chances of making into the Premier League’s top four, as we now sit six points behind the top four, with the gap increasing further should Manchester City beat Aston Villa. This time last year, we were favourites for the title. The boss believes that the missing ingredient against the Baggies has been the main reason for our struggles all season.
“We just don’t score as many goals – it’s as simple as that. The players are giving the same effort, the same attitude and the skills they are transferring from last year are the same.
“We had two players last year who played in our front three who between them got 50-plus goals, and we don’t have that. But as a team, the players are giving absolutely everything,” he added.
