Martin Skrtel still waiting on fresh Liverpool contract offer

Despite recently reassuring us that he won’t be going anywhere this summer, fresh reports emerged last night claiming that Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is still waiting on a contract offer from the club.

On what has been an otherwise positive week for the Reds off the field, with Jordan Henderson signing his new deal on Thursday, Skrtel has reportedly reopened the door to a possible summer move.

While there are no quotes from the player himself, the Daily Mirror believe that the interest of Wolfsburg and Napoli will not fully deteriorate until the Slovakian finally puts pen to paper.

The 30-year-old defender, who has played almost 300 games for the Reds during his eight years at the club, has only a year left to run on his current deal. As the Mirror states, he was previously thought to be closing in on a new deal, but such thoughts have now been cast into doubt.

Speaking earlier this week, Skrtel said: “I am not leaving anywhere. Not to Wolfsburg nor to Naples.”

Let’s hope that same sentiment still stands, despite the Mirror labelling him as ‘bemused’.

While a new deal surely remains only a matter of time for one of our most crucial players, Liverpool fans will no doubt be eager to see it signed and sealed before the end of the season.
