Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers answers journalist’s Memphis Depay questions

Can we pull off this serious transfer coup in the summer…?

After weeks of rumours, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has reacted to news that we’ll be competing for the signature of PSV starlet Memphis Depay this summer, reports the Echo.

The 20-year-old left sided attacker has plundered 21 Eridivisie goals this term, helping his club win the title from Ajax – who have dominated in recent seasons.

With our goalscoring problems this season, a new forward will clearly be a summer priority, as we look to replace the goals lost in the absence of Luis Suarez and an almost always injury Daniel Sturridge.

Rodgers though was coy on the subject of the Dutch prodigy – as you’d expect him to be.

“I can’t confirm either way – you know me, in terms of speculation of players. The kid is a very talented player, of course. But I wouldn’t like to confirm either way,” he said.

The fact he chooses to openly praise Depay however, hints at our almost certain interest.

Depay has all the characteristics we’re looking for in an attacker. He’s rapid, physically strong, positionally versatile, and can finish from both inside and outside the box.

We’d absolutely love us to sign him in the summer, in the hope that he could one day emulate the last forward we bought from the Dutch leagues: Luis Suarez.
