With five games left – and following some disappointing results – we currently sit fifth in the Premier League, seven points off a place in the top four. With the summer fast approaching, it looks as if we have left it too late to sneak ourselves a place in next season’s Champions League.

According to Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce’s Twitter page, Rodgers believes that if nothing else, a strong end to the campaign will help the team grow some confidence.

The difficult end to last season – where we narrowly missed out on the title – left a sour taste in the mouth, one which arguably failed to leave until December last year, when our unbeaten run began. Hopefully we can get five successive wins under our belt before the curtain comes down, then we stand a much better chance of avoiding a lacklustre start when the new season begins – and give ourselves an outside chance of Champions League qualification, too.
