Admittedly, some of these ‘bargains’ come with fairly lofty price-tags. There are an incredible 46 candidates in the list below, all reported targets according to LFC Xtra, who seem determined to hand Brendan Rodgers an ironically lengthy ‘shortlist’ come the end of the season.

Rod Fanni (Marseille)

A veteran defender who could be a potential replacement for Glen Johnson, who is out of contract at the end of the season. Fanni’s current deal is also set to end next month so he could be a decent bit-part player coming in free.

Alex Song (Barcelona / West Ham United)

The former Arsenal midfielder started the season brilliantly at Upton Park, after failing to impress parent club Barcelona since his big-money move. However, his form has faded in recent months, as has our reported interest.

James Milner (Manchester City)

Another free agent come the end of the season. A versatile midfielder and England international who could provide Brendan Rodgers with a useful stop-gap solution to losing Steven Gerrard. Worth a punt, he comes cheap.

Moses Simon (KAA Gent)

The man who has been dubbed the ‘Nigerian Ronaldo’. No, it’s not the return of Victor Moses, this is the wonderfully names Moses Simon. The 19-year-old has attracted a hoard of interest in recent months.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos (Schalke / Bayer Leverkusen)

Rodgers is thought to be a long-term admirer of the 23-year-old defender, who swapped Schalke for Leverkusen on a season-long loan deal this season. The Reds could capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding his future.
