Sanjoanense are only a third tier side in Portugal, but don’t let that fool you; the Liverpool hierarchy are believed to have high hopes for their new player, who they think has every chance of making the jump to the first-team in the future.

According to the Daily Mirror, Paulinho – or Paulo Alves to give him his full name – has travelled to Merseyside with his father to put pen to paper on an Anfield deal. He will then finish the league season with his current club before joining Brendan Rodgers and co for pre-season.

Alves will be the second Portuguese youngster to join the Liverpool academy. He’ll be accompanied by compatriot Joao Carlos Teixeira, who broke his leg playing for Brighton & Hove Albion this season.

The Liverpool Echo believes that Paulinho will start off next season at the Kirkby Academy. However, he will be told that he can make the move up to Melwood if he proves himself early on.
