Ibe, 19, is yet to feature under Southgate but has played at every age group between U18 and U20. And now, having impressed with the Reds during the second-half of the season, he’s set to make the step up.

After spending the first-half of this season on loan at Derby County, he was recalled by Brendan Rodgers in January and made an immediate impact in the Reds first-team, putting in a man-of-the-match performance against Everton.

The Daily Mirror believe that his inclusion in Southgate’s squad will represent the latest step in ensuring that the youngster commits his future to England, rather than Nigeria, for whom he is also eligible to play at senior level.

Ibe is expected to replace former-Liverpool youngster Thomas Ince – currently with Hull City – in Southgate’s squad. As the Mirror explains, Ince surprisingly ruled himself out of selection for the team back in March in order to concentrate on club football.
