Despite Pep Guardiola’s side putting up little fight for the majority of the game in the Nou Camp, it was the 26-year-old that has received the brunt of the abuse following the abject performance, after being made to look rather foolish by Lionel Messi during the second-half. Although, he’s certainly not the first player to be tricked by the Argentinian’s magic…

Three minutes after bagging the opener, Messi danced past the former Manchester City man, who proceeded to fall to the ground in desperation. The tumble meant that the quality of the goal was somewhat lost in the mocking that followed.

But Mario Balotelli – who moved to the Etihad in the same year as the defender – has reminded those who criticised Boateng of the ability the German has, by posting a picture of the Bayern man holding the World Cup trophy that he won last year!

We guess that Balotelli knows online mockery better than most, so is in a position to comment.
