According to the Daily Mirror, the 21-year-old would command a fee of around £15m, and would represent a change in style from our midfield.

Brendan Rodgers is resigned to the fact that finding the next Gerrard is almost an impossible mission, and thus, he is planning to find both a holding midfielder, and an attacking one, says the report.

Kovacic has the technical and physical capability to eventually play as an attacking midfielder, although for the Italians this season, he’s often been used as an orthodox central one. In that role, he’s found the back of the net five times, and registered two assists in 23 Serie A starts.

He prides himself on his passing and ability to retain the ball when under intense pressure, which is an attribute Rodgers dearly admires.

For the right price, we’d be delighted to see Kovacic arrive at Anfield – although feel we’d need another more experienced addition to cover for Gerrard’s departure.
