The former Paris Saint Germain, Roma and Monaco star only joined Milan in the summer, after falling out of favour in the French capital, but could be a victim of another poor campaign from Filippo Inzaghi’s side.

Milan are currently tenth in Serie A and are closer to the relegation places than they are leaders Juventus.

Tuttosport have now claimed that Menez, 28, could be on his way to Anfield, as Brendan Rodgers’ never-ending search for attacking players takes yet another twist.

On a day in which we have already been linked with Christian Benteke and Danny Ings – arguably far more realistic targets – this one has come somewhat out of the blue.

Although Menez leaving Milan would not raise many eyebrows, you have to think that a return to his native France would be a more realistic outcome, especially with Euro 2016 just around the corner.

Menez has predominately played as a central striker this season but could be used in a versatile role on Merseyside, where this move to ever happen. He is comfortable playing on the left and in an attacking midfield role.
