According to the Mirror, Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers are happy to listen to offers for our long-serving anchorman Lucas.

The South American has been with us ever since 2007, and while he’s endured some serious downs, he’s a fans’ favourite due to his superb attitude and his discipline at the base of midfield – even if he lacks any kind of creativity.

The Italians are keen on him to add this defensive strength to their own side after a disappointing Serie A campaign where they look set to miss out on the European places.

Interestingly, we’ve been continually linked with Inter’s own midfielder Mateo Kovacic, although the Express reckon that Barcelona will provide us competition for the barnstorming Croat’s services.

We’d be happy with a swap deal between Lucas and Kovacic, but that isn’t mooted anywhere just yet, so if it’s not on the cards – would prefer we keep Lucas, as with Steven Gerrard departing, there’ll be an experience vacuum in the centre.
