Former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam is confident that Anfield hasn’t seen the last of Steven Gerrard the player, despite him saying an emotional goodbye to our supporters after last weekend’s game.

Gerrard faces Adam’s current side, Stoke City, on Sunday, in what could prove to be his final game for the club. He joins LA Galaxy next month but there has been muted speculation that our iconic midfielder could return on loan during our next campaign (via the Daily Mirror).

Indeed, speaking to the Mirror ahead of the game, Adam insisted that Gerrard would be coming back.

“I think he will come back to England on loan,” he said.

“The type of person he is, he will want to play games over the Christmas period. [And] Give anyone an opportunity to sign Steven Gerrard in the Christmas window and they would snap your hand off. He has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League for a number of years.”

Thankfully, Gerrard has already ruled out the possibility of ‘doing a Lampard’ and joining one of Liverpool’s Premier League rivals. Former Chelsea favourite Frank eventually signed for Manchester City at the start of this season, playing an important part in their campaign and even scoring against his old club.

But Adam, who played alongside Gerrard during his single season at Anfield in 2011-12, doesn’t think his former teammate will be happy with allowing his career to wind down in the States.

He added: “Liverpool has been a massive part of his career and his life and he’s made a choice to go to LA Galaxy – what a place to go and live and experience. Something new. He feels it is the right decision for him and his family and I have a lot of respect for him as not many British players will go and play abroad.

“It is a great move. But I wouldn’t say he is just going there to finish off his career, he will want to win trophies.

“I was only with him for a year but in that time I saw what a winner he is. I know he will want to go there and be the best player and win trophies for the Galaxy. He has the right quality and hopefully he can achieve that.”

Gerrard still has one more game to play during his current spell with Liverpool and we’re all hoping he can sign off with a win!
