Fabrizio Romano, a trusted Italian journalist who works for Sky Italy and Calciomercato, claims that Liverpool have already approached Ancelotti, but the recently sacked Real Madrid boss wants to take a year out to recharge his batteries.

Ancelotti’s pedigree can only be matched by a handful of managers in the world. He’s won Champions League titles with AC Milan and Real Madrid, and the Premier League title with Chelsea – so it’s understandable Liverpool supporters began to discuss the possibility of him taking the reigns following our shockingly disappointing season under Brendan Rodgers.

However, while club owners FSG are reviewing his season, Sky reports heavily indicate that he will not be sacked – although if this is the case, it seems strange that we would have contacted Ancelotti in the first place.

German publication Bild also reckon Jurgen Klopp would take the Liverpool job, meaning Rodgers is likely in for a nervous few weeks as he enters discussions with our American owners.
