The Reds are about to make a £15m offer to Southampton for England international full-back Nathaniel Clyne, according to reports in the Daily Star.

While we’d usually be quick to dismiss such a rumour, it seems perfectly plausible that we would make an improvement on our original £10m bid – which was confirmed by the far more reliable BBC Sport last week.

And, with Brendan Rodgers’ future having seemingly been sorted earlier this week (via Sky Sports), we’d hope that the Northern Irishman will now push on with his desired transfer business.

Clyne was an integral part of Southampton’s fine 2014-15 campaign, which included a seventh place finish in the Premier League. The 24-year-old, who joined the Saints from Crystal palace in 2012, played 41 times this year, scoring three times.

He’s seen as the perfect replacement for Glen Johnson, who will leave us at the end of the month when his contract expires. With Jon Flanagan also having been ruled out until the end of the year through injury, the addition of a new full-back is likely to be a key priority for Rodgers and co this summer.
