Mateo Kovacic discusses potential Liverpool move with report claiming fee agreed

Mateo Kovacic has had his say on the constant rumours linking him with a move to Liverpool. The Croatian was finally cornered by reporters this week, although he remained predictably tight-lipped with his answers.

As political correctness dictates, he told his questioners that he was happy at Inter Milan and was not actively seeking a move, although he did refuse to rule out a switch to Merseyside this summer.

In quotes taken by the Daily Star, he said: “I signed a new contract some months ago and I want to stay here. Right now, yes [I want to stay], but you can never say never.”

The Star are also reporting this morning – and we certainly advise that you don’t trust this as a source – that we’ve now agreed a £16.6m transfer fee for the player with the Italian giants. They reference Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport who claim that we are now free to discuss terms with midfielder.

We’ve heard all this before of course – the tabloids love to tease us – but these two stories should perhaps offer us encouragement as we look to add our fourth new signing of the summer.

Having already sealed deals for James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan, our next priority appears to be sealing a deal for the 21-year-old, who will help fill the void left by the departure of captain Steven Gerrard.
