No, we’re not joking, the Silkmen have launched an appeal on their official Twitter page for donations from their supporters. According to reports on ESPN, they’re hoping to raise enough for a £50m bid, although there’s no word yet on how they’re planning to pay his £900,000-per-week wage packet.
Unfortunately, they’re only raised a measly £5m thus far, although I’m sure when they subsequently pull out of making an offer for Sterling, that they’ll be only too grateful for any money that they’ve actually made.
Help us bring @sterling31 to Macc! We’re a little short after our World Cup bid so need your help! #raheemtomacc http://t.co/OLHn3lanTi

It’s a clever ploy from the cash-strapped club who have endured a difficult year off the pitch (via BBC Sport). By making people laugh and getting a little bit of national media coverage, they could raise some much needed money that can be put back into the club.
Fair play to you Macclesfield, I’m sure us Liverpool fans would all rather see Sterling plying his trade at Moss Rose than at Manchester City next season.
