Liverpool will travel over 9,000 miles more during pre-season than any other Premier League side

It’s vitally important to maximise commercial avenues and meet some of the global fan-base during pre-season in modern football, but air-miles contribute to players’ fatigue – so it’s important to get the balance right.

It seems we’re paying the former more importance though, with Sky Sports tweeting today that we’re going to be travelling 30,619 miles during our round of pre-season friendlies, over 9,000 miles more than the next side in the list – Stoke.

We’re heading out to Australia for two fixtures in July, before taking on a Malaysian XI in Kuala Lumpar three days later. We’ve also confirmed (via Express) a fixture against Helsinki, just seven days before our Premier League campaign kicks off in August.

So… Will this have a negative effect on our chances of being totally prepared for the 2015/16 campaign…? We’re not entirely sure in terms of squad fitness, but can appreciate our marketing team has worked tirelessly to organise the tour for necessary commercial reasons.

We want Liverpool to be a global brand as it will help us compete with the world’s biggest clubs – who we see ourselves alongside.

Fans of modern football behemoths simply have to accept this.
