Jamie Carragher hints that he’s responsible for Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne deal

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has taken to Twitter today to suggest that he might in fact be the man responsible for the Reds signing Nathaniel Clyne – a deal which the Liverpool Echo claims is almost completed.

The Anfield favourite, who made more than 700 appearances for us before retiring two years ago, explains that he talked with the England international at St. Mary’s Stadium last year and suggested that he would do well at Anfield.

He joked that, as a result of his ‘tapping up’, that he’d now been placed on our transfer committee.

While we doubt that Carragher would find time to work with the Reds’ hierarchy – in between his stints as a Sky Sports pundit – many Liverpool fans would no doubt love to know the reason for our outstanding progress so far this summer.

The Reds have confirmed deals for five players already – James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino – while Clyne looks set to become our sixth new addition before the end of June.

It’s truly an astonishing turnaround considering the position we were in at the end of last season, as well the hecitancy with which Brendan Rodgers and FSG have approached deals in the past.

So, regardless of whether this is Carragher’s influence, or that of some higher force, long may it continue!
