Liverpool eyeing up Swedish left-back who could rival Alberto Moreno

The Reds are reportedly in talks with Sweden Under-21 left-back Ludwig Augustinsson, as we look to continue strengthening our defensive options ahead of the new Premier League season.

Now, we’re not saying that Liverpool read our advice, but we did suggest that we needed a left-back earlier this week. Unfortunately, Augustinsson wasn’t one of our top five candidates, who you can read about in full HERE.

However, there could be something to this rumour from the Daily Mirror.

The 21-year-old currently plays for FC Copenhagen, who he only joined in January after a two-year spell with IFK Goteborg. He made 15 appearances in total for them last season, scoring once.

This summer he’s competing in the European Championships in the Czech Republic, in which Sweden’s youngsters have reached the final. He was the player that labelled England’s side as overrated earlier in the competition although, ironically, the Three Lions are the only team to beat them thus far.

Sweden will play Portugal in the final, who will have Liverpool centre-back Tiago Ilori among their ranks.

If the full-back were to sign for us, he’d be competing with Alberto Moreno for his spot in the team. We definitely need a left-back this summer, with Jose Enrique having barely featured over the last couple of years and Jon Flanagan likely to miss most of next season due to his ongoing injury problems.

Augustinsson would certainly work well for us – he’s young, with potential, but is also likely to come on the cheap. He would provide decent competition for Moreno and hopefully encourage the Spaniard to up his own game as well.

We’ll keen an eye on this one with interest.
