Former Red backs Coutinho to shine once again

Philippe Coutinho was a revelation last season, and was far and away our best player over the course of the campaign. Former Liverpool star Fabio Aurelio believes the Brazilian is more than capable of enjoying another successful season at Anfield, and claims his confidence will help him in 2015/16.

Coutinho always looked talented, but he has only recently begun to shine as brightly as we all knew he could. He has really adapted well to the rigours of the Premier League, and is rightly being recognised among the best players in the English top flight.

Aurelio was full of praise for the 23-year-old, and believes that he is finally showing what he is capable of.

“I have followed Coutinho since he first joined Inter Milan,” Aurelio told Liverpoolfc.com.

“Obviously he didn’t have a great time there, but he was always a quality player, a quick player that could play very well between the lines. Quick-thinking as well.

“At Liverpool, he had the chance he needed to step up and improve his game; he had the opportunity to show his true qualities.

“I enjoyed watching him a lot last season and now he will have even more confidence to keep doing the great job he is doing at the moment. I wish him the very best.”

Coutinho is being joined by his compatriot Roberto Firmino at Anfield, with the two hopefully linking up well for club as well as country.

The two men are extremely versatile, although both players’ favoured position is the No.10 role. Firmino has played almost exclusively in that position in the Bundesliga, although he has been required to play as a striker for Brazil.

It will be interesting to see how both men fit into Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI, and I for one can’t wait for the start of the new season to see them in action.
