According to talkSPORT, the Serie A giants want to overhaul their midfield options after a disappointing season and believe that the Brazilian would be the perfect partner for their other new signing Geoffrey Kondogbia.

The report, which references Italian source Tuttosport, suggests that contact has been made between the two clubs but ensures us that no official bid has been made thus far.

Intriguingly, Inter are also thought to be keen on the transfer due to the fact that Lucas is of Italian descent. According to talkSPORT, Italian clubs are only allowed to make two non-EU signings per season and the 28-year-old would not count as one of them.

The Telegraph told us last week that Liverpool had made Inter’s Hernanes our number one midfield transfer target, after growing frustrated with Milan’s demands for Croatian international Kovacic.

There has been no movement on either deal so far this week, but if Inter were to pursue their reported interest in Lucas then that would definitely give us an important bargaining chip that could make a deal happen.

We watch on with interest…
