The 24-year-old Uruguayan signed for the Reds in 2011 following his country’s successful Copa America campaign. He would go on to spend four years at Anfield, although injuries restricted him to just 12 Premier League appearances during his time at the club.

His spell at Sunderland started slowly but things picked up following the arrival of Dick Advocaat as manager and he would eventually play an important role in helping the Black Cats steer clear of relegation.

Despite the player’s fairly forgettable spell on Merseyside, Liverpool fans will look back fondly on this memorable goal scored by the defender against Queens Park Rangers in March 2012, when the youngster unleashed this stunning scissor kick from the edge of the area. You can watch it again in all its glory below.

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish Sebastian all the best during his time with Sunderland and for the rest of his career.
