Roberto Firmino passes Liverpool medical – deal 100% complete

The final touches of Roberto Firmino’s £29m transfer from Hoffenheim to Liverpool has been completed, the Echo reports.

Our club doctor Andy Massey flew out to South America and conducted the required tests on Friday and Saturday in Brazil last week, and the 23-year-old passed his medical without problem.

Firmino had already signed his five-year contract, and at £29m, he’s our second most expensive ever transfer after the £35m (via BBC Sport) deal for Andy Carroll of 2011.

He joins Coutinho (an international team-mate) and Lucas as Brazilians on our books, so we hope the current pair can ease the attacking midfielder’s move to England.

We think the fact he’s been in Germany for some time will help him, as their weather and physical style of football is not entirely different to the Premier League.

What is certain is that we’re about as excited for Firmino’s arrival as we have been for many a window – and hope his seamless medical foreshadows permanent clean health at Liverpool!
