Liverpool have this morning named Jordan Henderson as our new captain. The announcement was widely expected to be made today after the news seeped into the press yesterday evening, as it did in the Daily Mirror.
The club made the announcement via our social media accounts, while Henderson and manager Brendan Rodgers expressed their delight at the appointment…

The 25-year-old has been with Liverpool since 2011, having joined the club from Sunderland. He’s since made 186 appearances for us in all competitions, including an impressive 54 last season.
He’s regularly worn the armband in the past – most notably during Steven Gerrard’s absence due to injury mid-way through last season – and has enjoyed plenty of success, winning nine and drawing three of his first twelve games as skipper.
The England international also scored seven goals last season, his best record during any season for the club, taking his total for the Reds to 20. He’ll now be hoping to push on and prove that he can truly take the place of our iconic No. 8 over the next few years.
