Mamadou Sakho has revealed that he was pleased by the team’s performance during Tuesday’s comfortable victory over the Thai All-Stars, claiming that the Reds played ‘very well’.

The visitors were certainly in the mood to dominate, taking the lead within three minutes through Lazar Markovic before eventually claiming an impressive 4-0 win.

Sakho scored the second himself, heading in a corner from Joao Carlos Teixeira, before Adam Lallana and debutant Divock Origi completed the rout in the second-half.

“It was a very nice win for the team. It was a good workout for us and I think we played very well,” the Frenchman told our official website.

“I feel happy to score but the most important thing for me is to give 100 per cent for the team, but that’s the same for all of players and I think it’s very good for the future.

“It was good to play in a very good stadium in front of some great supporters and it was very nice for us to be out here. I hope we can carry on with our good work we have done so far during the pre-season and get the same result in our next game.”

The next stop on our pre-season tour is Brisbane on Friday. That will be followed by games in Adelaide, Malaysia and Helsinki before a trip to Stoke City for our first Premier League game of the new season on August 9th.

Sakho has a point to prove if he wants to start the season as part of our first choice centre-back pairing, alongside Martin Skrtel. After another injury-hit campaign last time around, the 25-year-old must prove that such problems are behind him and that he’s ready to be a key asset for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
