Adam Lallana says ‘brilliant’ summer signings prove Liverpool’s ambition

Adam Lallana is struggling to contain his excitement about Liverpool’s summer additions. With six new signings already done and dusted and Christian Benteke set to become the seventh early next week (via BBC Sport), the midfielder believes that this could be a memorable campaign for everyone at Anfield.

The 27-year-old, who has scored twice already during pre-season, was asked about the impact the Aston Villa man could have during a recent press conference. And, in quotes taken by the Daily Mirror, he said: “That would be a big statement.”

“He is a big presence. He has always scored goals. He would be a very strong component for us if he were to arrive.”

James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne have also come in, and Lallana believes that such additions will prove crucial for us next season.

“There’s a good buzz around the place,” he told reporters. “The new signings have been brilliant so far. Liverpool have done some shrewd business. There’s a good balance.

“Nathaniel I know well [from their days together with Southampton and England] – he is a solid signing and he is just going to get better under Brendan’s guidance.

“James Milner is a great professional and a great player as well. He has won the league and he will bring something different. Divock brings something different too, as does Danny Ings. From what I’ve seen so far, I’ve been really impressed – and there’s Phillipe Coutinho and Firmino still to link up.”

Our pre-season tour could not have gone much better thus far. We’ve won both our games, while all our new signings – other than Firmino – have featured and impressed. Milner scored the winner against Brisbane Roar last time out, while Gomez was arguably man-of-the-match.

Let’s hope that trend continues when we take on Adelaide United on Monday.
