Tancredi Palmeri: Liverpool want Marco Reus, trying ‘intensely’ to convince him, no bid yet

Liverpool ARE interested in signing Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus this summer, according to Italian journalist and beIN Sports reporter Tancredi Palmeri, who has posted the news on his Twitter account.

According to Palmeri, the player himself would prefer a move to Real Madrid, but the Reds are working hard to make something happen. He tells us that no official bid has been made at this stage, but points out that any offer is unlikely to be made until our bosses are confident that something could happen.

The news will excite some Liverpool fans hugely, while others will take the story with a large pinch of salt, as is probably wise.

Reus, 26, would cost Brendan Rodgers around £46m this summer – according to reports in The Telegraph – although the British media have so far been unconvinced that any such deal is likely to take place.

The German international has scored 53 goals in 119 games for Dortmund since joining the club in 2012. He would arguably be the dream replacement for Raheem Sterling, following his move to Manchester City, and would no doubt complete our summer spending.

This is the first time a journalist has directly confirmed our interest, though Palmeri is often more a figure of fun on Twitter, than than he is a bastion of transfer knowledge. So let’s hope the Italian is correct and that our much-maligned transfer committee can complete their transformation from villains to heroes.
