Emre Can asks Brendan Rodgers to play him in central midfield

Last term, Emre Can shot to prominence as one of three centre-backs in an unorthodox wing-back formation.

The German prodigy displayed an unbelievable composure and quality on the ball while showing off serious physical prowess for one so young.

But Can wants to be used further forward this campaign, as do most of the Liverpool supporters.

“The most important thing is to feature in games, that’s my number one intention,” he began.

A midfield role is preferable, it is the manager who decides who plays where. We’ll see where he chooses to play me this season – it is up to the manager, but my preference is midfield.”

Can’s attributes are seemingly perfect for the central role he craves. He demands possession, can drive with the ball at his feet – and most importantly – has the tenacity to take on the biggest and strongest Premier League midfielders.

If last season set the tone for Can’s Liverpool legacy, this term he could start to define it, because his talent knows no ceiling.

We really hope that Brendan Rodgers is brave enough to give Can a chance in the holding midfield role – with James Milner and Jordan Henderson beside him in the 4-3-3.

Lucas and Joe Allen will also want to claim the anchorman spot, but neither arguably have the talent to fulfil the role long-term for us, which Can does.
