According to a report in The Guardian back in May, the striker is not expected to feature for Liverpool again until at least October. However, the fact that he’s already exercising again will only help reassure supporters that the England international is on track to meet this expected return date.

Sturridge started just seven Premier League games last season as he battled with a series of injury problems. But thankfully, it is hoped that this latest surgery will put an end to his problems and allow him to play regularly.

Of course, when he does eventually return, he’s going to find himself in a very different situation. Last season, due to our problems up front, we were forced to rush him back and push him for games when he might not have been ready. This year, he has Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and Divock Origi for company in a new-look front-line.

For now, Sturridge has become something of the forgotten man, despite scoring 40 goals in his first 66 games for the club. Let’s hope that when he does return, he’s able to take a few people by surprise!
