Liverpool confirm sale of Spanish defender

Liverpool have today confirmed that academy defender Rafael Paez has left the club and completed a permanent move to AD Alcorcon – who currently play in the Spanish second division (via official website).

The 20-year-old centre-back, who spent time on loan at both Bologna and Eibar last season, failed to make a single competitive appearance for Brendan Rodgers’ side – having moved to Anfield from Real Madrid in 2013.

He did feature in one first-team friendly game – against Shamrock Rovers last year – which we won 4-0, where Iago Aspas, Fabio Borini, Jack Dunn, and Martin Kelly were the scorers.

Paez also featured in 15 matches for the Under-21s during the 2013-14 campaign, forming a partnership with Lloyd Jones at the heart of the Liverpool defence.

The youngster becomes the third academy player to leave the club permanently this summer, following on from Jordan Lussey and Marc Pelosi, who were both released at the end of last season.

We wish Rafael all the best with this next step in his career.
