The Daily Mirror goes full ‘2013’ & recycles mindnubming Mkhitaryan to Liverpool rumour

The transfer window has less than two weeks less to run and the tabloids have fallen back on an old favourite, as they look to link us with a highly unrealistic move for somebody before the end of the month.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who could possibly claim to have been linked to Liverpool more than any other player, is the subject of these latest set of rather dubious reports – which come courtesy of the Daily Mirror.

The report attempts to cite SportMediaset, an Italian publication, but a small amount of research will show you that the website is instead talking up Juventus’s interest in the player and makes no mention of Liverpool at all.

In all likelihood, the Mirror – who are not the only culprits in the British media – have simply fallen back on an outdated rumour – such as this one from The Guardian in 2013 – to bring Liverpool’s name back into the equation.

Indeed, it seems highly improbable that we’d be trying to sign yet another attacking midfield player this summer, with Roberto Firmino having already been added to our growing list of options up front.

Nonetheless, it’s worth re-noting Mkhitaryan’s qualities once again. The 26-year-old Armenian international has scored 14 league goals during his first two seasons with Borussia Dortmund, having moved to Germany from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The player is best known for his ability on the ball – including his passing and crossing abilities, as well as his desire to track back and help out with defensive duties as well.

A fine player, but one who won’t be wearing a Liverpool shirt any time soon.
