Tiago Ilori, a £7m signing, was yesterday loaned to Aston Villa for the season.
If he does well, the Midlands club have an option to buy the Portuguese 22-year-old.
And it’s this aspect of the deal which has confused Reds so much. Surely the point of a loan deal, especially with youngsters, is to get them first-team experience and see if they can enhance their talent through regular game time.
But if Ilori does poorly, we’re stuck with an unwanted defender next summer, and if he does well – we’re going to lose him.
It doesn’t make any sense.

WHAT?! Jose Enrique deletes ALL social media accounts and vows to change his ways!
Whether Ilori was good enough or not is irrelevant. We scouted him, bought him for a lot of money and did absolutely nothing with him. Mad.

Our CB’s. Sakho – Good. Skrtel – Not Good. Lovren – Pretty much awful. Toure – It’s Kolo Toure. But yeah let’s just loan Ilori out.

Its been nagging me for a while but the Markovic & Ilori deals have confirmed that we have no strategy for the overall “football operation”

Seven million quid, two years, three times an unused sub and it looks like that is that for Tiago Ilori at #LFC pic.twitter.com/9DMKkUfAHR

On Ilori: don’t understand why @LFC went to trouble of buying him to never give him a chance, especially how pleased they were to do deal

So Ilori was another pointless signing.

Wow Ilori, at least give the lad a chance.

the tiago ilori situation proves Rodgers poor decision making,Tiago ilori is a quality player #RodgersOut

I won’t pretend to know anything about ilori, but Liverpool fans seem pushed over the edge by Rodgers with this deal
— Ben (@BenHaden) September 2, 2015
I agree with the most that it’s a stupid idea to send Ilori out on loan, with a permanent view at the end. Easily better than Lovren #LFC

I never guessed there so many fans of Ilori. A lot of people have turned against BR because of this loan deal.
