Christian Benteke takes no joy in wonder strike against Man United

Christian Benteke has admitted that while he is proud of the strike that gave us a glimmer of hope against Manchester United at the weekend, he would rather have seen us take three points from Old Trafford, the Daily Mail report.

Despite the hype surrounding Anthony Martial’s strike, it was unquestionably the Belgian’s acrobatics that deserved the plaudits.

“I had some luck and I am happy with it, but we didn’t get the three points,” he said.

“At the end of the day I would have rather taken the three points and so I’m disappointed,” he added.

Unfortunately, our performance for much of the game meant that we were not able to bag the victory that the strike deserved.

While it is difficult to pick out many positives from Saturday’s game, the goal is certainly one, and should give the former Aston Villa man plenty of confidence for the rest of the season.

He has already proved his technical ability with the goal against United following the stunner in pre-season against Swindon. And while he was unlucky not to add to his tally against Arsenal – with Petr Cech putting in a sensational display in the goalless draw at the Emirates – there are very encouraging signs moving forward that our new front man will succeed where his predecessors failed.
